Still need to make two more phone calls... but everything I needed to do to just make my existence here legal is done. Woo, CA license plates?

In other news, I've volunteered to run a demo 4th ed game at the local gaming store this Saturday. Should hopefully help me find a group to play with in the area. And, if not, should be interesting anyway.

Power? Check, though I still need to hunt down the electric company and make sure they send the bill to me instead of my landlord, so as to make sure it actually gets paid.

Internet? Well, there's an unsecured network I can access. No eta on my own service; I'll be talking to someone about that tomorrow, and we shall see what happens.

Second day of work. More forms, more traffic, more reading of soporific documentation. And also one tiny little starting bit of (gasp!) useful stuff.

The apartment I checked on this morning was, of course, sold by the time I got there. So I tried another place at random, and lo and behold, they not only have apartments, but they have one I can move into tomorrow. Er, today, if you happen to still be on east coast time.

Not the world's best apartment, or cheapest, or etc., but it's not bad on any count (at least for the area), and it's month to month rental, so I can move out if I happen onto something better.

Of course, it is the law of new apartments that it won't have power for a couple days, and won't have internet for a couple days after that. At least, that's what I'll be betting on, since I'd rather be pleasantly surprised than annoyed. We shall see. Worst comes to worst, I can just spend most of my time at my workplace where there is both power and internet.

First day of work. Full of forms, and documentation, and more forms, and traffic.

Over an hour commute (one way) is really horrid; I'll by swinging by a possible more local apartment before I show up to work tomorrow. Hope it's actually good; I'd love to cut my commute down to 15 minutes within the next week or two.

Stuff & Nonsense

So, it occurs to me, that I haven't posted anything here in... a very long time.

Life is going fairly well, all things considered. I have a job (of uncertain duration), doing programming; there is an NDA, so I won't talk that much about it.

Video games are amazingly good at eating time, as always, though I'm starting to get a little bit bored with WoW. This won't last past the next content patch, though, I'm sure.

The most interesting thing, though, is a I-swear-it's-not-D&D game I'm running on a webforum Benabik set up for me. You can go take a look at it here. The game isn't closed, either; I'm willing to consider new players - and I know there are a few people out there who might end up reading this who'd planned on playing, but haven't. You're welcome back, too - or not, as you choose.

Anyhow, it's a very different dynamic running that game versus running one that meets face to face; usually fairly slow paced, but with occasional flurries of action when multiple people are online at once and co-ordinating posts over AIM. I do like the post format much better than running it over AIM directly, though - a chat transcript is much more annoying to read, and this doesn't require people to neccessarily be online at the same time.

Going to Otakon confirmed. Yay! This'll be the first such anime/gaming convention I've been to aside from that small thing at RIT whenever it was. Should be grand fun.

Still no sign of a fall co-op. At this rate I may have to drop my requirement that it be in the computer game industry, in which case I'd look for ones in Rochester, and around my home - I know a place around here (DC/northern VA) that probably still has a standing offer to hire me... In either case, I'll be back up at RIT this winter. After that... I'm not really paying attention to after that. I probably should be...

However, I've started work on my own old school CRPG engine. Nothing too impressive yet - my biggest accomplishment so far is loading an image file and using it as a tileset. But I've only been seriously even considering working on it since last thursday, and what with (many) breaks to play games and otherwise goof off (not to mention planning...), I think it's decent progress.
